Dota Ti8 Predictions
In TI8, that means picking the team with the lowest chance of getting out of group stage (or, if they DO get through, they get bounced in a BO1 immediately thereafter). According to Open Dota's ELO rankings, Serenity has BY FAR the lowest of any TI team. So I already lean heavily toward this team, but it gets even more compelling. The International 2018 – TI8 – is now the eighth edition of the biggest Dota 2 tournament of the year. It is also the final of the long esports season and here the best Dota 2 team of the season will be found. It is the first year in which the Pro Circuit Points (hereinafter referred to as PCP) come into play.
The International 2018 meta starts to take shape after just one day of matches in the group stage. At the end of forty games there is a handful of heroes that stand out in terms of picks and bans and most likely they don’t match the majority of predictions.
Most picked hero: Wraith King

Wraith King was promoted to first pick material yesterday and it’s been used mostly in the offlane. Although his sudden popularity took the analysts and the Dota 2 fans by surprise, him becoming a top priority for the competitive scene at the most important tournament of the year makes sense. Wraith King’s Vampiric Aura and his ability to summon a small army of skeletons makes him extremely versatile. He provides a good amount of life steal in the team fights, he is a good sieging tool and a great space creator, he can burst down a hero with his 2 seconds stun duration and the extra damage coming from the skeletons and past level six he can reincarnate. So, all in all, he is a great deal.
While most of the teams preferred to place WK in the offlane, Vici Gaming and PSG.LGD used it as a support as well, but, unfortunately, neither of these two teams had successful attempts with that specific idea. WK brought mixed results for PSG.LGD who won one game with it in the offlane, but lost with him in the support role. The Chinese teams seemed to be the more open to try the hero in different roles. VGJ. Thunder, for instance, ran the Skeleton King in the carry position, Liu “Sylar” Jiajun going for an aggressive built, Armlet – Blink Dagger – Heaven’s Halberd.
Hot picks:
– Vengeful Spirit: 18 games
– Crystal Maiden: 16 games
– Weaver: 16 games
Most banned hero: Enchantress
– Banned: 30 games
– Ban rate: 75.00%
– Picked: 7 games
– Win rate: 85,71%
While none of the Dota 2 personalities who shared their TI8 prediction foresaw the Wraith King resurgence, Grant “GranDGranT” Harris, Trent “TrentPax” MacKenzie, Henrik “AdmiralBulldog” Ahnberg, Yaroslav “NS” Kuznetsov and Janne “Gorgc” Stefanovski placed Enchantress in the most banned hero category.
From her 30 bans in total on day one, Enchantress was denied in the first round of bans 28 times. And from the 7 times she made it into a game, she was first pick material 5 times.
Having very similar attributes to WK, strong AoE heal, good sieging tools, durable and with nuke potential, but level six dependent, Enchantress was played in the offlane with only one exception. OG’s Johan “N0tail” Sundstein played it once the support five position.
Hot bans:

Another surprise at the end of the first day in the TI8 group stage matches is the total absence of Sand King, Jakiro and Naga Siren from the drafts. These three, along with other 18 heroes have never been the subject of a pick or a ban, despite being some of the most utilized during the DPC season.
There are three more days left for all these heroes to make it into the TI8 group stage drafts and we are looking forward to see how the Main Event meta is going to evolve.
